Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020: MPF Field Trip to Pioneer Forest Pine Woodlands

Join Neal Humke, Land Stewardship Coordinator with the L-A-D Foundation and Rick Thom, L-A-D Foundation board member, on a guided field trip to the Randolph Tract of L-A-D Pioneer Forest in Shannon Co., MO near Round Spring. Free event. This field trip,
limited to 20 people, will combine carpool caravanning and walking over rocky terrain, starting in grassy, old growth, pine woodlands and continuing downslope toward the Current River to look at other types of Ozark habitats. The group will drive a short distance to
Round Spring on the Ozark National Scenic Riverways for lunch. You will have a chance to take a short walk to an overlook of one of Missouri's most scenic big springs. We'll have lunch in the picnic area at the parking lot, which also has a number of interesting
interpretive signs about the area's natural history and its past. The field trip will conclude after lunch at the Round Spring Parking Lot, around 2:00 p.m. Optional: following the trip, stop at Echo Bluff State Park and visit the lodge and see the cliffs along Sinking Creek.

The field trip will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the parking area  at the Pioneer Forest Virgin Pine Area parking lot, accessed by a gravel road off of Highway 19. Dress for a walk in the woods: sturdy hiking boots or shoes, and tick and sun protection. Bring a sack lunch and water.
Detailed directions will be sent to registrants. Register by calling 636-303-7418.
