Grow Native! Article in Columbia Daily Tribune

By definition, native plants occur within a region as the result of natural processes rather than human intervention. Over the course of thousands of years, native flora in the Midwest had evolved and adapted to its specific region based on its relationships to available resources — soil, water, temperature, sunlight and pollinators — making natives perfectly suited to grow in the places they put down roots.

Grow Native! is a marketing and educational program of the Missouri Prairie Foundation (MPF), dedicated to encouraging those of us living in the lower Midwest to preserve and proliferate native plant species because, said MPF Executive Director Carol Davit, “we depend on the natural world and its biodiversity for our existence.”
